Zoonk Tecnologia e Educação Ltda decides how your data is used. In data protection laws, that makes us its controller.

1. What we collect

  • Account: your email, name, username, profile picture, language, and time zone. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we get your name and email from them, and your picture from Google.
  • Learning: your goals, plans, lessons, answers (typed, or spoken and turned into text), progress, mistakes, time spent, feedback, and preferences such as your buddy.
  • Memory: short facts about how you learn that Zoonk remembers to help you (see section 4).
  • What you send us: goals you describe, chats and calls with your buddy (the AI tutor), uploaded files, pasted text, and support messages.
  • Payments: your plan and subscription status. Card details stay with the payment provider.
  • Technical and usage data: IP address, the country your connection comes from, device, browser, cookies, sign-in records, security events, and, when usage data is on (section 7), how you use Zoonk (screens, clicks or taps, and session replays). To block bots and fake apps, we run security checks on your browser, and in our apps we ask Apple or Google to confirm the app is genuine.

We collect this data electronically, from what you enter and from how you use Zoonk on the web and in our apps. You need an email address to create an account. Everything else you give us is up to you, though some features can't work without it.

2. Why we use it

  • To run Zoonk for you: your account, goals, plans, lessons, progress, buddy, memory, voice features, and account emails. We need this to provide the service you signed up for (our contract with you).
  • To take payments and keep records: to provide Plus, handle cancellations, and send refunds (our contract with you), and to keep the tax and accounting records the law requires (legal obligation).
  • To keep Zoonk safe: to prevent fraud, bots, and abuse, and to enforce fair-use limits. This is our legitimate interest in protecting Zoonk and the people who use it. We keep records of each sign-in because Brazilian law requires it (legal obligation, section 10).
  • To fix and improve Zoonk: analytics, session replays, error reports, and quality checks of AI content. This is our legitimate interest in finding bugs and making Zoonk better. In the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Turkey, the analytics in your browser start only if you accept them (your consent). You can turn analytics off at any time (section 7) and object to the rest (section 12).
  • If you ask Zoonk to remember something sensitive, such as a health condition: we keep it because you asked (your explicit consent). You can delete it at any time in Settings, under Memory.
  • To build the shared Library: we use public documents, such as official exam notices, to write lessons for many learners. This is our legitimate interest in teaching everyone well.
  • To meet legal obligations: for example, to answer authorities when the law requires it, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We don't show ads, and we never sell your data or share it for advertising.

3. AI and your data

  • Zoonk uses AI to create plans, lessons, pictures, audio, explanations, tutor answers, and feedback. AI can make mistakes. Lessons made with AI and the AI tutor are labeled as AI.
  • AI shapes your lessons and plan, but it doesn't make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
  • Your own data is never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else's. That includes your chats and calls with your buddy, your memory, your uploads, lessons made just for you, and your answers. We send it only to AI providers whose terms rule out training on it.
  • Lessons and pictures in the shared Library are written for many learners and hold no personal data. Some of them may be created with providers that can learn from those requests.
  • If a question you ask has an answer that's the same for anyone, we may share the explanation with other learners, without your words.
  • For each AI request, we record the model, its cost, and how long it took, with your account ID, but not the text. The exception is some quality checks of what you write, such as questions to your buddy, which keep it for 30 days.
  • Please don't share sensitive personal data, about you or anyone else, unless your learning needs it.

4. Memory

  • Zoonk remembers short facts that help it teach you, such as your goals, what you already know, and how you like to study. They come from your answers, your chats with your buddy, and your study activity.
  • Memory adapts lesson examples, tutor answers, and the suggestions on Today.
  • Zoonk doesn't keep health, religion, political views, or other sensitive details unless you ask it to.
  • Memory is on until you turn it off. In Settings, under Memory, you can see, edit, delete, or download every fact, and turn memory off. When it's off, Zoonk doesn't learn new facts or use the ones it has.
  • Deleted facts are erased about 30 days after you delete them. When you delete or correct a fact, we also delete the personal lesson examples written from it.

5. Voice

  • When you answer out loud, your browser or app asks for microphone access. The recording goes to an OpenAI or Google speech model to be turned into text and checked. We keep the text, not the audio.
  • In live voice calls, your browser or app connects directly to OpenAI's voice model. The audio doesn't pass through our servers, and we don't store it. We keep the feedback written from the call, which may quote a few of your phrases, and its result, not the full conversation.
  • The audio you hear in lessons is made from the lesson's text only, by Google text-to-speech models, with Microsoft's as a backup.

6. Uploads

  • Files you upload are stored privately and are never shown to other learners. AI models read their text so your lessons can use and cite them.
  • If an upload is a public document, such as an official exam notice, we may recognize it and use it for other learners too. It is then no longer linked to your account. Like other shared Library content, it may then go to AI providers that can learn from it (section 3).

7. Analytics and cookies

  • We use PostHog (analytics and session replays) and Vercel Web Analytics to understand how Zoonk is used, fix problems, and improve it. A session replay shows how screens were displayed and used. What you type or upload may appear in a replay if it's on the screen. Only people who need it to run Zoonk can see analytics.
  • When they start: In the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Turkey, they wait until you choose "Accept" in our notice about usage data. Elsewhere, they're on unless you turn them off. Our sign-in pages don't load them.
  • Turning them off: Use "Share usage data" in Settings › Preferences, on the web or in our apps. Turning it off stops the analytics in your browser and the events our servers record about your account. If you turn it off there on any of your devices, it's off for your account everywhere.
  • Events from our servers: Our servers also record some events, such as finishing a lesson or how you signed in, to understand how Zoonk is used. They don't use cookies and rely on our legitimate interest. Turning off "Share usage data" stops them too. Our apps don't include analytics tools, so only these events apply there.
  • Your country: On each visit, we work out your country from your IP address, or from your browser's language when that's not available, to show prices and apply your country's rules. We don't save it to your account.

Cookies and similar storage on your device:

  • Sign-in: keep you signed in or keep your guest session, until you sign out or after 30 days without use. Strictly necessary.
  • ZOONK_LOCALE: remembers your language, for 12 months. Strictly necessary.
  • ZOONK_COUNTRY: remembers your country, to know whether to ask about usage data, for 1 hour. Strictly necessary.
  • ZOONK_USAGE_DATA: remembers your choice about usage data, for 12 months. Strictly necessary.
  • PostHog (ph_*): recognizes your visits for analytics. Only after you accept, where that's required.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block all of them, you can't stay signed in.

Your browser or app sends information directly to these services:

  • PostHog: when usage data is on, the screens you see, clicks and taps, a visitor ID, your account ID and username if you have an account, device, browser, IP address, and session replays, to understand use and fix problems.
  • Vercel Web Analytics: when usage data is on, the page address, the page you came from, device, and browser, to count visits.
  • Vercel BotID: security checks when you sign in or start as a guest, to block bots.
  • Vercel Blob: the files you upload and your IP address, when you upload, to store them (section 6).
  • OpenAI: your voice, IP address, and browser or device, during live voice calls, to run the call (section 5).
  • Sentry: error details, device, and browser, to fix errors.
  • jsDelivr: your IP address and browser, in coding activities, to load the coding tools.
  • GitHub Pages: your IP address and browser, in music activities, to load instrument sounds.

8. Who processes your data

We share data only as needed to run Zoonk. Most of these providers are based in the United States:

  • Hosting, files, and security: Vercel, United States (including Vercel Blob, BotID, and the AI Gateway).
  • Database: Neon, United States.
  • AI: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, United States, for most tasks; TypeSafe, for quick text classification; Black Forest Labs, Germany, and Recraft, for shared Library pictures only. Other providers, such as Microsoft, may step in as backups through the Vercel AI Gateway. Web searches for exam information and for your buddy go to Parallel, United States. They hold only search words Zoonk writes, never your account data.
  • Analytics and errors: PostHog, Vercel Web Analytics, and Sentry, United States.
  • Email: ZeptoMail (Zoho), United States, for sign-in codes and other account emails, and Google Workspace, United States, for the messages you send us.
  • Sign-in and app checks: Google and Apple, United States, when you sign in with them or use our apps.
  • Payments: Stripe on our website, and Apple or Google in the App Store or Google Play, United States.
  • Coding tools and music sounds: coding activities load tools from jsDelivr, a public content network, and music activities load instrument sounds from public libraries on GitHub Pages, United States. Both see your IP address.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it.

9. Data outside your country

  • Zoonk is run from Brazil. The European Commission recognizes Brazil's data protection law as adequate (decision 2026/179), so data can come to us from the EU without extra safeguards.
  • Our providers process data mostly in the United States, and some in the European Union and other countries where they operate. Your data travels to them over encrypted connections.
  • These providers process your data under their contracts with us, which allow them to use it only to provide their service to us and require them to keep it secure. Where a provider is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or its UK and Swiss extensions, or its data processing terms include the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, we rely on that. Ask us at hello@zoonk.com which safeguard applies to a provider, and for a copy.

10. How long we keep data

  • Account and learning data: while your account exists. We delete it when you delete your account (see section 13).
  • Guest data: until 30 days without activity, or until it moves to your account.
  • Memory facts you delete: erased about 30 days after you delete them.
  • AI quality checks of what you write, such as questions to your buddy: 30 days.
  • Requests to AI providers: some providers keep them for a limited time, as their terms allow, to detect abuse, then delete them.
  • Sign-in codes: they expire after 5 minutes and are deleted within 2 days.
  • Sessions: the IP address and device of each session, until you sign out, the session expires after 30 days without use, or you delete your account. Expired sessions are deleted every day.
  • Sign-in records: the account ID, IP address, and time of each sign-in, including guest sessions, for 6 calendar months, also after you delete your account, as Brazilian law requires (Marco Civil da Internet, art. 15). They're then deleted in our daily cleanup.
  • Error reports: deleted automatically by Sentry within 90 days.
  • Analytics and session replays: until we remove them after you delete your account (section 13), or until PostHog's retention period ends, whichever is sooner.
  • Your choice about usage data: on your account while it exists, and in a cookie on your device for 12 months.
  • Cost records of AI requests and calls: kept for our accounts. They never hold what you said or wrote. When you delete your account, we keep them without your account ID.
  • Feedback you send: kept to improve Zoonk, without your email once you delete your account. Copies of feedback and support emails stay in our mailbox as long as we need them to answer you and handle any claim.
  • Payment records: kept by Stripe, Apple, or Google as payment and tax law requires.
  • Backups: deleted data stays in our database provider's recovery history for up to 30 days, then it's gone.

When data reaches the end of its period, we delete it from our database and file storage. It can't be recovered after that.

11. Guests

You can try Zoonk without an account. A cookie keeps your guest session on your device. Guest data is deleted after 30 days without activity, or moves to your account if you create one.

12. Your rights

  • You can ask to access, correct, download, or delete your data, learn who we share it with, object to or limit how we use it, withdraw any consent you gave, and ask for a review of automated decisions.
  • You can download your data with "Download my data" on your profile page and your memory in Settings, turn off analytics with "Share usage data" in Settings › Preferences, and delete your account with "Delete account" on your profile page.
  • For anything else, write to hello@zoonk.com from your account's email. We may ask you to confirm it's you. We answer within 10 days, for free.
  • A parent, guardian, or someone you authorize can make these requests for you.
  • You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live. Section 16 lists it for some countries.

13. Deleting your account

  • You can delete your account at any time with "Delete account" on your profile page.
  • We then delete your account, learning data, memory, uploads, and anything made from your private files, and end your subscription on our website right away, as section 13 of the Terms explains. A subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play stays with Apple or Google: cancel it in your account there.
  • Some study statistics, such as whether a question was answered correctly the first time and how long a lesson took, are kept without anything that links them to you, to improve lessons for everyone.
  • Within 30 days, we also delete your PostHog profile, with its events and session replays.
  • Sign-in records stay for 6 months (section 10).
  • Public documents you uploaded that became shared sources stay, since they're no longer linked to you.
  • Payment records stay with Stripe, Apple, or Google, as payment and tax law requires.

14. Age and children

  • Zoonk is for people 13 and older, or 14 and older in Italy and Korea. Teenagers under 18, or under 19 in Korea, need a parent's or guardian's permission.
  • We don't ask for your age or birth year.
  • If you believe a child under the minimum age gave us data, write to hello@zoonk.com and we'll delete it.

15. Security

  • Data travels between your device, Zoonk, and our providers over encrypted connections.
  • Our database and file storage providers encrypt data at rest. Uploads are stored privately.
  • We store sign-in codes only as scrambled values (hashes), so they can't be read back.
  • Only people who need it to run Zoonk can access personal data, each with their own account.
  • No system is completely secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

16. Rules for some countries

These sections add to the rules above for people who live in these places.

Brazil

You have the rights in the LGPD (Brazil's data protection law), including those in section 12. We keep sign-in records for 6 months because the Marco Civil da Internet requires it (section 10). You can complain to the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD).

EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland

  • Section 2 lists the legal basis for each use of your data, section 9 how we protect data sent outside your country, and section 10 how long we keep it.
  • Analytics in your browser rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time with "Share usage data" in Settings › Preferences.
  • When we rely on our legitimate interests, you can object, and we'll stop unless we have compelling reasons that override your interests.
  • You can complain to the data protection authority of the country where you live or work, such as the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or Switzerland's Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Japan

  • Data outside Japan: We entrust your personal information to the providers in section 8, mostly in the United States. We rely on their contracts with us, which require them to protect it. On request, we'll tell you more about these measures. The Personal Information Protection Commission publishes information about other countries' data protection systems.
  • Security measures: Section 15 describes them. Your data is handled mainly in Brazil, the United States, and the European Union, and we take their data protection laws into account.
  • Requests: To ask us to disclose, correct, add to, delete, or stop using your personal information, or to disclose records of sharing it, write to hello@zoonk.com from your account's email. We answer without delay and don't charge for it.
  • Information sent from your device: Section 7 lists each service that receives information from your browser or app, what it receives, and why.

Korea

  • What we keep and for how long: Section 1 lists the data, section 2 its purposes, and section 10 how long we keep each kind.
  • Processors and transfers abroad: We entrust processing to the providers in section 8, which handle your data in the countries listed there. Your data goes to them over encrypted connections whenever you use a feature that needs them, and they keep it as section 10 describes. You can refuse these transfers by not using Zoonk or deleting your account, but Zoonk can't work without them.
  • How we destroy data: We delete electronic records so they can't be recovered. We don't keep data on paper.
  • Cookies: Section 7 explains them, how to turn off analytics with "Share usage data", and how to refuse cookies in your browser.
  • Privacy officer (개인정보 보호책임자): Zoonk's managing director, at hello@zoonk.com.
  • Help with violations: You can contact the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (1833-6972), the Personal Information Infringement Report Center (118), the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (1301), or the Korean National Police Agency (182).

Turkey

  • How and why we collect data: We collect it electronically through our website and apps (section 1) for the purposes in section 2. Our legal reasons under Articles 5 and 6 of the KVKK (Turkey's data protection law) are that it's needed for our contract with you, for our legal obligations, to establish, exercise, or defend a right, and for our legitimate interests, and, for analytics cookies and sensitive details you ask Zoonk to remember, your explicit consent.
  • Who receives it: The providers and authorities in section 8, including abroad (section 9), for the purposes in section 2.
  • Your rights: Under Article 11 of the KVKK, you can learn whether we process your data and how, ask for it to be corrected or deleted and for those who received it to be told, learn who receives it in Turkey or abroad, object to a result against you that comes only from automated analysis, and claim compensation for unlawful processing. Write to hello@zoonk.com. We answer within 10 days, for free. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu).

17. Changes

When we change this policy, we update this page and its date. For important changes, we'll also let you know in Zoonk or by email.
