Follow normal Hangul writing order: top to bottom, left to right, and outside before inside. Trace simple strokes before combining them into letters.
Recognize, pronounce, and trace the vertical vowel letters ㅏ, ㅑ, ㅓ, ㅕ, and ㅣ. Compare the single-stroke and doubled-stroke vowel shapes.
Recognize, pronounce, and trace the horizontal vowel letters ㅗ, ㅛ, ㅜ, ㅠ, and ㅡ. Distinguish upward and downward vowel marks inside syllable blocks.
Recognize, pronounce, and trace the consonants ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, and ㄹ. Match each letter shape to its sound in simple syllables.
Recognize, pronounce, and trace the consonants ㅁ, ㅂ, ㅅ, and ㅇ. Use ㅇ as a consonant letter that changes by position in a block.
Recognize, pronounce, and trace the consonants ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, and ㅎ. Compare the added-stroke shapes used for stronger aspirated sounds.
Recognize doubled consonant letters ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, and ㅉ. Distinguish them from their single-letter partners inside syllable blocks.
Compare the shapes and sounds of ㅐ, ㅔ, ㅒ, and ㅖ. Trace these vowels and recognize them inside simple syllable blocks.
Read ㅘ, ㅙ, and ㅚ as compound vowels built on ㅗ. Recognize how the combined vowel shape fits to the right of a consonant in a block.
Read ㅝ, ㅞ, ㅟ, and ㅢ as compound vowels built on ㅜ or ㅡ. Recognize these combined vowel shapes inside syllable blocks.
Build and read blocks with a consonant on the left and a vertical vowel on the right, such as 가, 너, and 미. Choose the correct left-right layout for vertical vowels.
Build and read blocks with a consonant above a horizontal vowel, such as 고, 누, and 드. Choose the correct top-bottom layout for horizontal vowels.
Use ㅇ as the silent initial placeholder before a vowel, as in 아, 오, and 이. Build vowel-only syllables with the required initial ㅇ.
Recognize the bottom batchim slot in CVC syllable blocks. Read simple blocks with final consonants, such as 김, 밥, and 문.
Distinguish silent initial ㅇ in 아 from final ㅇ pronounced like “ng” in 강 and 공. Choose the correct sound based on where ㅇ appears in the block.
Read common final consonants ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, ㄹ, ㅁ, ㅂ, and ㅇ with their final-syllable sounds. Avoid adding an extra vowel after a final consonant.
