Basic word order in statements, questions, and short answers.
Build simple statements with the conjugated verb in second position. Place the subject first or begin with a time, place, or other element and move the subject after the verb.
Form yes-or-no questions by placing the conjugated verb before the subject, as in “Kommst du?” and “Ist das richtig?”
Build information questions with words such as wer, was, wo, wann, wie, and warum, followed by the conjugated verb and subject.
Answer questions naturally with ja, nein, or doch and an optional short clause. Distinguish responses to positive and negative questions.
